Simply stunning is the only way you can describe Foxygen’s return to fray, all at once captivating and alluring, ‘America’ tick tocks its way through a skin shedding musical carnival that sweeps with much orchestral gusto through a myriad of motifs one minute macabre the next magical to incorporate a richly vibrant palette that smokingly sways from string soaked sepia twinkles dusted and trimmed in vintage fairy dust to rousing swing mysterios ghosted in shadowy powerhouse mosaics, reference wise imagine a darkly dinked golden age Disney featurette adorned with a chamber symphony upon whose musical tapestry are threaded Baroquean elements of a gathering of Bacharach, Weill and Brecht types being led from the fore by a brooding and tempestuous Scott Walker.
