the telescopes

Emerging from out of bureau b’s sister label Tapete on the same day, new happenings from the Telescopes. Proving the age-old theory that no two telescopes albums sound remotely alike, ‘as light return’ reveals a further facet of the Lawrie sonic persona, with members of St Deluxe onboard again for the ride, these snippets reveal a creative darkness that draw deep down into psychedelia’s fractured and fried depths. This is dark, very dark, three featured excerpts feature here, the best by a country mile being the haze haloed shade adorning Velveteen bliss kiss of ‘you can’t reach what you hunger’ which veers ever so sublimely into sonic environs once traversed by Bowie’s ‘heroes’ albeit detuned by a very youthful Jesus and Mary Chain. Somewhere else there’s the paranoiac mind twisting oblivion of the snarling ‘something in my brain’ while bringing up the rear some nifty primordial psych unhinged-ness courtesy of ‘handful of ashes’, very damaged and very menacing.
