fairly certain that both Mat (you, the night and the music) and johnny (pull the plug) have had this covered, loved and played on their respective mix cloud shows. We here on the other hand are still busy ducking backwards and forwards, rummaging through the releases we’ve missed in our absence, much like this one. Courtesy of Café Kaput (Ghost Box), something that slipped out at the beginning of the year entitled ‘applied music volume 2 – plastics today’. Very much tapping into that classic library music aesthetic – see Chapell, KPM and Bruton, ‘plastics today’ charters a familiar nostalgia that aligns to the sonic worlds of hauntology and cold war electronica, twisted around a familiar retro grooving, on this occasion the VHS soundscapes of the 80’s, Brooks (for we suspect this is Jon Brooks) craft a deeply alluring palette both vintage in design and pattern whose future gazing pastorals from a forgotten yesterday dreamily demur with a strangely now appeal.
