surf muscle

One of those unexpected item on the welcome mat moments. We didn’t see this one coming I can tell you. Without fanfare or warning, a new happening from the much loved Sonido Polifonico imprint. As ever, the now trademark quality packaging, a limited lathe cut 7 inch, only 67 of these, all hand numbered and arriving in hand sprayed sleeves, with badges and ceramic tokens – it all looks a treat I can tell you, appearance alone warranting the admission fee alone. On the clear 7 inch lathe, two blistering cuts of twang-a-rama cool from Sheffield based riff slingers Surf Muscle. ‘revenge of the pencil necks’ opens matters, hints of a youthful Shadows aren’t lost on us here, the reverb soaked vintage toning exquisite excels to moments of pure wigged out sassiness all oozed with a hip shimmying smoking slinkiness that had us much minded of the Shadowy Men from a Shadowy Planet. Over on the flip, ‘the Desert Song’ provides for a high wiring Tarantino twister (see ‘reservoir dogs’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’) lassoed to a rumbling lost Spaghetti Western soundtrack pitting a three way last stand showdown between the Link, the Lively Ones and the Blue Giant Zeta Puppies. Essential by our reckoning.
