Shortly to emerge via Sub Pop with a full length entitled ‘Pony’, this is Orville Peck with the strangely slow burning ‘turn to hate’, a track culled from that set and sent ahead on reconnaiscence duties. Sitting somewhere between Robert Forster and Jon DeRosa, Peck’s smoked tones and crooning riffs converge with a mercurial richness that purrs and pulses to a countrified heart. Imperecably dusted and smouldered by a retreating high noon sun, a tender bitter sweet lone star sits reflecting amid a disarming classicist artistry that burns and bristles with a warming open road mid western glow.
