rob noyes

again am i dreaming this or did we not mention Rob Noyes in passing a few days ago, fairly certain he featured on a compilation featuring Karen Zanes, and then, maybe not. Anyhow, again through Market Square, been out a while but still copies available, which i strongly suggest you nab especially if your choice of listening poison happens to tune into the wonderfully intricate folk blues psalms cut by Scott William Urquhart. two tracks feature on this limited 7 inch cut, us being the ever awkward preferring to draw your attention to the flip side, home to ‘nightmare study’. This sprightly fret flecked nugget drops with an authentic delta blues dusting, smokily serene and faraway n’ lazy eyed, you can literally smell the moonshine and hear the lulling creak of a wheezing rocking chair tapping at the window ledge of this apple pie and homemade lemonade prairie picturesque. yet while some may instantly reach back for their John Fahey platters for comparable comfort, by these ears, we hear the subtle spirit of both Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie Johnson leaning on its shoulder grinning.
