Something aired over the weekend on BBC Radio 3 that you might have missed, Matthew Sweet continues his trawl through cinemas soundtracks, this edition prompted by the recently released remake of ‘poltergeist’ visits upon the spirit world and weaves an hour long magicalia of gothian scores and sweeping string arrangements clipped in creeping beauty and ethereal mystery, among the hauntings Jarre, Williams, Goldsmith, Hermann, North, Elfman, Horner, Beltrami, Streitenfeld and the best of the set in our humbled opinion Humphrey Searle’s captivating sonic choreographer for ‘the haunting’ which unless our ears do deceive shares a close affinity with Hermann’s ‘vertigo’.
